White Hart Hotel (Flowery Field, HYDE)

The White Hart Hotel in 1965.

The White Hart was built in 1833 and situated at 47 Old Road. There's a great story attached to this pub: In 1960 landlord John Hadfield moved in and discovered a small wooden box in the kitchen. Curiosity got the better of him and a couple of years later he opened it to discover a mummified cat wrapped in bandages. It was still a mystery when the pub closed in 2002. In 2006 Robinsons sold the pub together with approval for it's demolition. In 2007 six new apartments were built on the site although one of the brick outbuildings remains (planning permission was refused to convert this into an apartment). The former public house has also left it's name: The apartments are simply the White Hart apartments and the road on it's north flank is White Hart Street.
