The former Cuckoo in th' Nest in 2011. |
The beerhouse known as Cuckoo in th' Nest was situated on Leylands Lane at what is now Leylands Farm. It is most likely Broadbottom's oldest beerhouse and most likely converted from a farmhouse to a beerhouse around around 1763 when the nearby Hodge Mill was built. I'm unsure as to when it closed but it's likely to be in the 1860s when the cotton famine caused a depression (Hodge Mill had by then converted from wool to cotton spinning). As a result the former Cuckoo in th' Nest returned to being a farmhouse.
