Bay Horse Inn (Town Centre, HYDE)

The former Bay Horse Inn in 2009.

A 1872 map shows a public house on Hamnett Street in Hyde. There's a chance I have the wrong building but the Bay Horse Inn closed in 1964. The southernmost part of the building has long been demolished but the outline of it can still be seen. What remains of this former pub is now a computer repair shop.

  1. These premises were the Newmarket tavern. The Bay Horse was on the opposite side on Hamnett Street and has disappeared under the motorway.

  2. There were two pubs on Hamnett Street the Royal Albert and The Bay Horse Hotel, both Wilsons brewery houses. The picture shown wasn't the Bay Horse it was demolished to make way for the motorway. My mum and Dad, George and Hilda Robinson were the licencees and with my brother George we lived there until 1953.
