Olive Tree Inn (Godley, HYDE)

The Olive Tree Inn c.1886.

The Olive Tree Inn was situated at 290 Mottram Road in Godley. I'm unsure as to when it was built but certainly before 1870. Behind the inn was the Olive Tree Hat Works which was demolished and replaced by a margarine factory. The factory closed in 1921 and was briefly occupied by the Maypole Dairy Company until 1925 when it became a meat proccessing plant (Walls). The Olive Tree Inn itself closed in 1922 and was demolished shortly after. The whole of this area has now been demolished although the foundations and car park to the factory are still there.
