The Red Lion in 2007. |
The Red Lion was situated at 52 Manchester Road at the junction with Clark Way (this had previously been the junction with the now gone Rochfort Street). It dates from around 1857 and was originally a beer house only becoming a fully licenced public house around 1933. In 1976 the pub closed as the surrounding area was cleared to accomodate the Hyde by-pass. It reopened as the Hyde-Away but this closed in 1981. Around 1985 the pub reopened with it's original name of the Red Lion. The Red Lion closed for good in 2009 and the premises is now a company specialising in facias, guttering and cladding.
