The Church Inn during the coronation of Edward VII in 1902. |
The Church Inn was situated at 170 Market Street. I'm unsure as to exactly when it was built but by looking at old maps it would appear sometime in the 1850s. The Church Inn was one of the most popular pubs in Hyde particularly in the 1950s. The Church Inn closed for a while in 2006 only to reopen with the name Tylers. Tylers didn't last very long and closed in 2007. The pub reopened yet again in August 2008 as Route 66. However Route 66 became somewhat of a troublesome pub with underage drinkers, organised crime, lock-ins and anti-social behaviour. As a result in the 12 months it existed the police were called out 43 times resulting in its licence being revoked. It closed in 2009 and in 2011 was sold at auction.
