Commercial Hotel (Town Centre, HYDE)

1872 map showing the Commercial Hotel.

The Commercial Hotel was situated at 66 Manchester Road next to the railway line on the corner of Edward Street. Although the building itself dates to before 1835 it appears that the Commercial Hotel wasn't an inn before 1960. It may have been a beerhouse by another name or simply was converted into an inn when the railway had been completed in 1858. The Commercial Hotel closed in 1958 and was demolished in the 60s. The site is now occupied by a small garage and by the looks of it part of the original walls of the Commercial have been retained.
