An outing from the Robin Hood Inn c.1920. |
The Robin Hood Inn was situated on Mottram Moor near Carrhouse Lane opposite what is now K Kars Ltd. As to when it was built I'm unsure but likely to be around 1770. By 1798 it was being used as a meeting place by the local masonic group as a meeting place. The inn appears on records until 1936 but as to when it closed or was demolished I'm stuck. Note: Robin Hood was apparently a frequent visitor to Longdendale when it was just forest with large stocks of deer that is of course if you believe he actually existed.
The Robin Hood became a private house. The road level on Mottram Moor was raised, isolating the building. It was badly damaged by fire in the 1960's which led to it being demolished.
